What is Signal 19?

Signal 19 is the advocacy and awareness arm of JobChecked currently in development.

Signal 19 will focus on exposing and preventing exploitative job scams that can lead to human trafficking, while drawing attention to the conditions that make people vulnerable to these type of recruitment scams in the first place.

At 18 you officially become an adult, but by 19, you really feel it.

19 is the age when independence becomes real - when many people first realise they are navigating the world on their own. That gap between legal adulthood and lived experience can leave people exposed, and it is the Signal that many scammers look out for, particularly where independence is new and support systems are limited.

Why it exists

Signal 19 was created to name that moment of exposure - the point at which responsibility arrives faster than protection, and vulnerable people can mistake exploitative job offers for legitimate opportunities to travel or work abroad.

While JobChecked helps people assess suspicious job listings, recruiter outreach, and offers, Signal 19 will examine the wider problem: the growing systems of deception, coercion, and recruitment abuse that target people at moments of transition.

What Signal 19 Will Do

  • Raise awareness of exploitative job scam patterns and deceptive recruitment tactics
  • Support education and prevention around emerging scam risks
  • Draw attention to trafficking-linked recruitment harm and coercive scam labour systems
  • Advocate for greater transparency, accountability, and public understanding

How it connects to JobChecked

JobChecked is the practical protection layer - helping job seekers assess suspicious listings, offers, and outreach before they engage.

Signal 19 is the wider advocacy layer - focused on awareness, prevention, and exposing the structures that allow exploitation to hide inside the hiring process.

Together, they reflect a shared mission: not only to protect individuals, but to challenge the systems that make this kind of harm possible.

A safety-first approach

We do not provide guidance on covert communication, intervention, or direct engagement with job scammers or traffickers. If you believe someone is in immediate danger, please contact local authorities or a recognized crisis, trafficking, or victim support organization in your area.

Looking ahead

As JobChecked grows, Signal 19 will support research, awareness, and public education aimed at reducing harm and increasing visibility around exploitative recruitment practices.

Our purpose is not to teach signals. Our purpose is to raise one.
